John Lackey Re-Injured??

While making his first start since Tommy John surgery, John Lackey has appeared to re-injure his pitching arm.  While pitching an outstanding game with 8 K's into the sixth inning, Lackey threw a pitch to Jose Reyes and his right arm immediately hung down as Lackey grabbed it.

If this is serious, and it appears it could be, this is a devastating blow to Lackey personally after so much hard work to get himself in great shape.  He seemed to be grabbing his bicep of the the right arm.

More on this as more news becomes available.

  1. It looked bad. Perhaps he tore his bicep or by the way his arm was dangling it possible he may have broken his arm. If he did break his arm he is one tough bastard though because I think he would've been in more pain.

  2. If this is a serious/season ending injury it really will be a shame. Because this guy has been through so much and it seemed like he was on his way to some well deserved success. What a shame.

  3. I agree it looked bad. I'm no doctor, but he wasn't grabbing his surgically-repaired elbow, he was grabbing his bicep. I'm not sure if this is better or worse news, but I assume better. He had looked really good today, too. I would be shocked if he wasn't out at least 2-4 weeks. Red Sox Nation (including this guy) will probably be calling for Allen Webster to be called up, but with an off-day next week the Sox may only need a fifth starter once or twice in April. I suppose Aceves could fill in those two dates even if we would probably lose both of those games.

  5. The best Lackey and the Sox can hope for is that it is a bicep strain of some type. But it looked worst than that. It is a damned shame because Lackey had looked so good all spring and great in this game until it occurred in the fifth(not the sixth as I inadvertently typed in the original post). Hard to say when any injury report comes down. Tonight? Tomorrow??

  6. Sean McAdam tweets the following: "@Sean_McAdam: Source: Lackey left game with biceps strain. More details when they become available." McAdam has incredible sources! I'm pretty sure I could have told him that information and I'm sitting on my couch watching the game on TV.

  7. Apparently it is a " biceps strain", which has to better news than a tear or something elbow involved ( although Lackey clearly was holing the bicep area. ). Hopefully the Sox can hold down the fort until Lackey or Morales can return or until Webster is ready. I, too, had thought of the Sox using a four man rotation next time through due to an off day this Tuesday.

  8. I tried tweeting Stephania Bell, ESPN's injury expert, to get some info. All she tweeted out was this: "many possibilities, depending on degree/location; for Lackey best to be cautious". Clearly, we're not going to know more until tomorrow after he gets some tests done. Meanwhile, what the hell happened to our bats today?
