Well, Will Middlebrooks, aka Willie Middle ran away with this one. He sextupled the competition, winning the pol 6-1-1-0-0-0-0. I think it’s safe to say that amongst the Red Sox Maineiacs readership, we like us some Willie Middle. I suppose it is also safe to say that the most popular storyline to cheer for is often the young phenom making it to the bigs and fulfilling their potential. He has that new guy smell. He’s young, he’s good looking, he’s talented. What more could you want?
It is also noteworthy to see that Dustin Pedroia garnered a vote. Somebody has some love for the de facto captain of the squad. Pede provided some stick-to-it-ive-ness throughout the early season when seemingly everybody else was scuffling. This poll has been up so long that whoever voted for La Luna did so before his recent injury. Perhaps he would have gotten even more votes if he comes back and plays through his injury admirably. Everybody loves a gutsy performer.
Also receiving a vote was Cody Ross. Again, this poll was put up so long ago that Ross was still healthy and playing when the vote was cast. Perhaps whoever voted for him also had a touch of the new-guy cheeries. Perhaps him/her enjoyed Ross’ pimpin' of his big flies. Perhaps he/she enjoyed Ross’ Twitter account. By any measure, Ross has been a fun addition to the team and we’ll look forward to having him and his pimpin' ways back on the club in short order.
Now that we have established the Maineiacs’ favorite Sox player, look for a new poll going up today. In fact, since it has been so long since we've had a new poll, I'm going to put up two today. Both free! Beat that! Go Sox!
