Deacon's " Way Back, Way Back" Trivia

1. Two players hold the record for most grand slams by a Red Sox rookie.  One is Ellis Burks, who is the other?

2. Who holds the Red Sox record for the most home runs in a single month of May?

3. Who was the last Red Sox batter to lead the AL in home runs more than once?

4. The MLB record for home runs in a game is 4.  No Red Sox batter has ever done this.  Two batters who have hit 4 in a game have played for the Sox during their careers.  Who are these two home run hitters?

  4. Time to grade some papers. All three of you are correct that Mark Whitten hit 4 home runs in a game while playing for the Cards. No one has correctly guessed the other batter to hit 4 in a game. Both Barry and Brandon have one of the other answers correct as well.

  10. Both Barry and Brandon have all the answers correct except for question #2. It was indeed Mike Cameron who hit 4 home runs in one game, while playing for the Seattle Mariners. Jim Rice lead the league in HRs three times, 1977, 78, and 83. Zupcic hit 2 grand slams in 1991 matching Burks' output in 1987. Will Middlebrooks has a shot to tie or break this mark with one in the bank.

  11. The corret answers are:
    1. Bob Zupcic in 1991 after Burks had done it 1987. Will Middlebrooks needs one more to tie this duo.

    2. Jim Rice with 13 in May 1978.

    3. Jim Rice, who led the AL in 1977, 1978, and 1983.

    4. Mark Whitten as a Cardinal and Mike Cameron with Seattle each had a 4 HR game in the bigs.
