Last Game of the Road Trip

Hopefully the Red Sox can end their road trip with a win today.  The pitching matchup looks favorable, but you gotta play the game.  The Red Sox have done very well against Romero historically and Lester looks to be off to a good start.  We will not be running a live chat today so we can use this post for running commentary in the comments section.

  1. We got the lead, RBI single for Ells

  2. Sox get the first two on to start the 3rd. Then Shoppach squanders a bunt situation for out #1 then Ellsbury drove in a run with a single. Putting runners at 1st and 2nd with one out for Pedey and AGon and they do nothing with it. Lost opportunity for the Sox to put up a crooked number early on Romero. 1-0 Sox in the bottom of the 3rd.

  3. Lead is short-lived ad Escobar hits sac fly for 2-1 Jays lead

  4. Lester in one of those typical high pitch early innings

  5. 2-1 Blue Jays after 3. Damn Rajai Davis is the 2nd coming of Joe DiMaggio against the Red Sox and a punch and judy against everyone else in the league. He had an RBI triple and scored on a sac fly

  6. End of 4. Lester has thrown 65 pitches and the Jays still lead 2-1.

  7. About the botched sac bunt in the 3rd...a lot of tweets hammering Valentine for calling it with nobody out in the 3rd inning. For example, one read "This isn't the NL". In my opinion, the blame goes to Shoppach. Get the f'ing bunt down. You're a professional baseball player. Do your job. If Shoppach gets the bunt down then Ellsbury's single plates two with the 2-3-4 hitters coming up. Game would be tied right now. I liked the bunt call with Kelly "don't call me Kapowski" Shoppach at the plate. The best option for him is to either try to get hit by a pitch or bunt anyways.

  8. Didn't he get the bunt down it was just back to the pitcher? I am following on game cast so I didn't see it.

  9. Yes, what I meant was he's a professional baseball player and thus should be able to get a sacrifice bunt down in a proper position to move the runners over...cardinal sin of bunts is drilling it right back to the pitcher...angle the bat and get it down a line.

  10. It's all for not anyways. This team sucks. They are down 2-1 going to the bottom of the 7th. At least they've improved their start by one game over last year 1-5...what a joke!!

  11. Well, we'll just have to wait until the 9th inning. Apparently this team doesn't understand that you're allowed to hit until then. Also, Lester has been brilliant. 13 in a row retired by our Ace.

  12. Sox go down in the 8th 1-2-3 without even so much as sniffing 1st base. I'm sick and tired of trying to defend this team. Maybe we are fooling ourselves by saying everything will be alright. The reality is that this team is not very good. The May to August stretch from last year seems to be the anomaly not the norm. I apologize for being on tilt, but I'm sick and tired of this lackadaisical effort.

  14. Ellsbury leads off the 9th with a walk...and I promptly have to go to a staff meeting. Darn it.

  15. I can not believe that the biggest problem with this team ( yes, more thatn the bullpen ) is the offense. This cannot last-- they have too many hitters on this team. But if it does last let's say through April, how in the heck do you fix it

  16. 3-1 loss to the Jays against a guy we have hammered before...and the first two in the ninth are both walked bringing up our 3-4-5 hitters and nothing. Very puzzling...it is just a poorly timed slump, or is something more sinister going on??
