4/26 How Sweep it is!!

The Red Sox have completed their first series sweep of the year and head to Chicago for a four game set with the White Sox. The White Sox have gotten off to a 10-8 start, not bad for a team that is supposed to be rebuilding. Their pitcher for tonight's game, Philip Humber, threw a perfect game his last time out against Seattle. From the Red Sox perspective let's hope that the perfect game sapped him of his energy and he won't have much left for tonight's game. The Sox do seem to do well against right handed pitchers like Humber, so I don't expect there to be a perfect game for Humber tonight. In fact I don't see him making it through 6 innings.

The Sox have Felix Doubront going to the mound tonight. His last start was outstanding, however the game ended up being a nightmare for the rest of the bullpen and the team. If the world of baseball was ever going to be fair Doubront will get the win tonight. I for one, am excited to watch him pitch and I'm confident he is going to continue doing well. His change up will be key tonight because the White Sox have a number of dangerous right handed hitters like Paul Konerko and Alex Rios who is off to a decent start after a horrible season last year.

Cody Ross left the game early last night, hopefully it's nothing serious and we'll see him back in the lineup tonight. I feel a Nick Punto start coming sometime soon, but with Aviles being on fire and Youkilis starting to come around I'm not sure there is a spot for him. Although I did notice Pedroia favoring his left elbow after a swing last night so perhaps he could play 2B and give Pedroia a day off. Anyway here is my lineup prediction for tonight's game:

Aviles SS
Sweeney RF
Pedroia 2B
Gonzalez 1B
Ortiz DH
Youkilis 3B
Salty C
Ross LF
Byrd CF

Doubront SP

There is a live chat scheduled for tonight at 8pm!! We'll be covering the Red Sox game and the NFL draft live (via satellite of course) as well as discussing last night's disappointing Bruins loss. Also look for Jason's Kate Upton clip of the day, plenty of Jenny Dell talk and there are sure to be plenty of quotes from the movie Major League.

  1. In addition to throwing a perfect game his last time out, Humber left the team earlier this week to go home and be there for the birth of his first child. Having recently experienced this myself (ok, it was almost a year ago now, whatever.), I can't imagine that Humber has much energy left to bring it tonight against a Sox lineup that is mashing right now. In fact, if his experience was anything like mine, he's probably a garbled mess of emotional goo. I agree with Barry that Humber won't make it through 6 innings. He'll be out early, go home to be with his wife and babe, and the Red Sox can feast on the White Sox's bullpen.

  2. Good info Brandon. I'll change my prediction... he won't make it through 5 innings!

  3. Two quick notes about tonight's game: Lars Anderson is making his first big league start as an outfielder, starting in LF. Secondly, this is scheduled to be the night that Matt Stairs joins the NESN crew.

  4. Bad news on the Crawford elbow injury front. The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo is reporting that Carl Crawford may miss as much as 3 months. An announcement from the team is expected soon.
