A couple of nuggets from today's Red
Sox news as they prepare to go for the sweep against the Twins:
According to boston.com Carl Crawford
is going to be seeking a second opinion on his elbow. This is not
good news for Red Sox fans. This thing just won't go away and what is
up with the Red Sox medical team? They just can't get anything
right. Hopefully this will be something minor, but if you believe in
the theory where there is smoke there is fire, your alarm should be
going off.
Clay Buchholz is on the hill tonight.
He is looking for a solid start to get his season turned around. He
has had a tendency to get off to a slow start in his first 3 games.
Let's hope he can shut the twins down for the first 3 innings tonight
and then get on a roll from there.
Deacon's #12 Sox prospect for the month
of April has been moved to the bullpen for the PawSox. Alex Wilson
who tops out at 96mph with a good slider. He was drafted in the 2nd
round in 2009 and he has been a starting pitcher ever since then. The Sox
clearly have a plan to transition him to the bullpen just like
Doubront, Papelbon, Buchholz and others before him have done. He has
the potential to be a set up guy sometime soon and the closer of the
future.
Rich Hill pitched a scoreless inning
for Pawtucket last night and appears to be getting close to returning
to the Boston bullpen. Mark Melancon has pitched 3 scoreless innings
since getting to Pawtucket. I believe he needs about 5 more good
appearances before I would be ready to call him back up.
We'll end on a positive note...after
the horrendous start of the first 14 games as of today the Sox are only 3.5 games
out of first place! There is no live chat scheduled for tonight so
check back here for in game updates and dialogue. We'll have
tonight's lineup posted as soon as we get it. Go Sox!!
P.S. Go Bruins!
ReplyDeleteBom bom bom...The dreaded words that no baseball fan wants to hear "Crawford is going to see Dr. Andrews" according to the boston globe.
ReplyDeleteAs you can see in the Twitter box to the right, Will Middlebrooks crushed another home run today to make it 9 on the season for him. Hopefully those footsteps Youk is hearing behind him motivates him to step up and start hitting the ball for power.
ReplyDeleteGood overview of news nuggets Barry. Crawford is "going to visit Dr. James Andrews", which is usually the athlete's equivalent of saying "I'm going to go visit my crazy ex-girlfriend" or "I'm going to go meet up with my crack dealer". In other words, nothing good usually comes of it. Unbelievable. It felt like Sox Nation was ready to forget about last year and allow Crawford some slack this year to work his way into our good graces, but if he misses significant time this year, his reputation may be forever tarnished, dare I say to Lackey-ian proportions. Good thing we made a sneaky good pickup in Byrd.
You gotta wonder if Cherington knew about this prior to making the Byrd deal which made it all the more necessary. Although they certainly needed to make it whether Crawford was coming back on May 1st or not.
DeleteGetting ready to drop the puck for Game 7! Here is the Red Sox starting lineup which is set to get in the batter's box in about 25 minutes.
ReplyDeleteAviles SS
Sweeney RF
Pedroia 2B
Gonzalez 1B
Ortiz DH
Youkilis 3B
Salty C
Ross LF
Byrd CF
Let's Go Bruins and Sox!!
Buchholz SP
ReplyDeleteBruins game is 1-1 end of the 2nd period. Red Sox lead 6-1 in the 3rd inning and Clay Buchholz is the second person in two nights to be caught on camera staring at Jenny Dell's chest. It was clear as day on a pre-recorded interview that they showed during the bottom of the 3rd.
ReplyDeleteHe even threw a wink her way at one point! I bet the bullpen pool to whoever gets her out on a date first sits at about 10 large.
DeleteI'll put my money on Salty. He's taking over for Tek in every way!
ReplyDeleteGive me Will Middlebrooks in the Dell Sweepstakes. Hey, he's hitting everything else with power these days.
ReplyDeletehaha good call he is hitting everything in sight!
DeleteThe Bruins power play sucks.
ReplyDeleteTough loss for the Bruins...Damn
ReplyDeleteBobby V decided to get lackadaisical with a 7-2 lead and brings in the craptastic Atchison/Thomas combo...and just like that it's 7-6. And Matt Albers is pitching. Why did he go with the three worst relievers in the major leagues? WHY??!?!?!
ReplyDeleteHe is saving the 4th, 5th, and 6th worst for the 9th.
ReplyDeleteWell this night quickly took a turn for the worst. The Bruins lose in OT and then the Sox quickly cough up 5 runs to make a 7-1 game 7-6. Albers got a double play ball with the bases loaded and one out to prevent them from blowing the lead completely. Now the offense has to go back to work and answer with some more runs of their own.
ReplyDeleteNow that Thomas hit Parmalee in the head we'll probably have to see the Byrd beaning 10 more times on Nesn.
ReplyDeleteNot only is Youk struggling at the plate he is becoming a hack job at third.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the video of Byrd's beaning will be accompanied by a video of Justin Thomas packing his bags and never coming back to the Red Sox.
ReplyDeleteGot heeem!
ReplyDelete3 in a row...boy Fettucine is a high wire act, but a win is a win!
ReplyDeleteA few more updates from some of yesterday's nuggets. Our twitter box has some great links to some scouting reports from soxprospects.com. There is an excellent report about Alex Wilson and his transition to the bullpen. Check it out if you get the chance.
